I am not the powder clause employee. I do not wake up and check the snow report in the morning...I typically check my BlackBerry and get my day in order. This morning was different.
Steamboat Springs, Colorado offers skiers and riders the absolute best snow on Earth, and when my husband (who is in bed with a cold) groaned that the ski area received 20" of CHAMPAGNE POWDER SNOW I made a game time decision - get to the gondola as fast as possible!
I have lived in Ski Town USA for 7 years now and am happy to report that December 23rd , 2008 is now home to my best run at the Steamboat ski resort - ever. This comes with the understanding that in my "fast as I can" mentality I forgot my goggles on the kitchen table. In my fashionable Smith sunglasses I was choking down waist-deep powder with an ear-to-ear grin making first tracks on Hurricane. Did I mention this was the best ski day ever?
The holidays can get stressful somewhere between shopping for gifts, entertaining and trying to fit 5 days of work into 72 hours, I remembered how amazing the place we call home truly is. Steamboat Springs is truly paradise and I am very lucky to call it home. Now back at my desk I am the happiest employee who is committed to getting her job done today (thank you Pam and Cam for letting the marketing department go play :)
And I would like especially thank the lift operator on the top of the Burgess Creek chair today who loaned me his own pair of goggles so that I could enjoy the most magnificent powder day of the year...so far. Thanks so much and may all the good karma in the world be coming your way.
Happy holidays and best wishes on more waist deep powder days in the New Year.
