Space Station Signs Lease to Reopen!

Space Station A cornerstone of historic downtown Steamboat Springs, the Space Station, is going to reopen their classic style gas station and convenience store.  A local couple, Eric and Jodi Dorris, are hard at work right now cleaning up the facility with the goal of opening their doors to Steamboat visitors and locals by the upcoming Labor Day weekend.

The Space Station has been a vacant lot for the past few years, attracting litter, tall weeds and graffiti. The property will continue to be surrounded by a chain-link fence in an effort to prevent parking on the site during the renovation.  However, in a few short weeks Steamboat residents can find a bag of ice and a soda in downtown Steamboat Springs...which has been missing for a couple years now!  The community will definitely enjoy the convenience of this store...once again!

Earlier this year, the city of Steamboat Springs notified Monument Oil (from Grand Junction) that it was in violation of city nuisance regulations. Planning and Community Development Director Tom Leeson said the company subsequently cleaned up the site and asked that the city not take any enforcement steps while it worked on negotiating a lease. The city agreed, and on Monday, city officials said they were thrilled to hear the property will be used again.

Jon Sanders, commercial real estate broker associate with Green Courte Partners' downtown redevelopment projects, said there also may be plans to lease downtown's other vacant gas station site at 3rd and Lincoln Avenue. The River Walk redevelopment project that includes the building that used to house a Shell gas station and Blimpie sandwich shop has been delayed.

Currently Green Courte is working to remove the gas pumps on the site, which is the reason for a fence and heavy equipment that on the lot. Both of these locations will offer great opportunities for small business owners with incredibly convenient locations.
